Offline Apps

Workflowy has a variety of apps that will work when offline, and then sync when back online.

Our new Desktop app for Windows and MacOS also works as a total offline solution.....

We also have the older Chrome App version of Workflowy that has offline functionality, but will be phased out soon as Chrome phases out their app support....

Our iOS app also works when offline.

Both will sync when your internet connection is online.

Please note, if you are offline and make edits to an item, but also make newer edits to the same item from another online device, the edits that you had made when offline will unfortunately over-write the newer edits.  We plan to improve this in the future.

Hi - I just made a series of important notes when offline and they disappeared once I got back to my desktop. Please tell me sync conflicts are saved somewhere accessible. Otherwise.......... otherwise, frankly I can simply never rely on Workflowy across multiple devices, especially in China where VPN access is intermittent.

    Hi there,

do you know that Google is planning to discontinue Chrome apps? Are you planning to make something to replace it? Thanks.

I've been asking for a native desktop app for a while now, just because i didn't like Workflowy being a child of Chrome. On mac at least, it makes switching between Chrome, Workflowy, and other apps slower because command+tab will go to Workflowy instead of any Chrome browser windows, even if i picked the Chrome icon to switch to. I assumed the workflowy team was unable to fix this behavior because it was inherent to Chrome Apps, not the code they had control over.

I want to pop into Workflowy and jot down a random thought, then pop back and continue what i was doing. Not being able to do that has really reduced how often i use Workflowy at all; i typically pop into a Notepad and then at the end of the week i remember to put items into Workflowy. That creates extra steps and usually results in missed ideas and duplicates. I adore the way Workflowy works but i've come close several times to abandoning it because this workaround is pretty silly.

I hope Google's discontinuing the app store the Workflowy team to create truly native Workflowy apps, because without an offline desktop app i will definitely stop using it. I will miss it, but a productivity app which requires extensive work-arounds to use is basically a failure by definition.

    Workflowy Support (Sasha)

Workflowy is aware of Google's plans to discontinue their Chrome apps, and we are developing our own standalone offline/desktop app for PC & Mac.

This is good to hear! Do you have an estimate for when the standalone app might be available? Need beta testers? ; )

The company that I work for is not confortable with having information that might contain confidential information be stored in the cloud. Are there any plans to have the ability to disable online syncing in the windows app?

Please restore the offline app and the ability to open it without opening the main chrome browser! I just lost this on my PC because I had to reinstall Chrome but I want it as a separate window and I would not be able to use it offline on my Mac if it made it open Chrome fully and try to open all of my tabs.
