Different formats for autocompletion of dates

Currently, there is an existing feature that autocompletes dates by hitting "tab".  E.g., if I type "9/20", it would replace with "Tue, Sep 20, 2022" if I click tab.  I'm requesting a feature to allow users to specify the formatting they prefer.  E.g., I almost never use the autocompletion of dates because I find "Tue, Sep 20, 2022" too verbose.
