Create option in templates to have mirrors detach from external nodes when instantiating

I'll sometimes have mirrored nodes inside of a template which, out of convenience, mirror an external node. This allows for any instantiation of the template to always have up to date information (which gets updated elsewhere). But when I use the template, the new instance is now mirrored to the external node still, where I would instead want it to "copy on instantiate" and detach. I would imagine you could do this with another tag just before the template.

  I was just coming to the forum to find out if this was possible.

  I'd like to set up detailed "week view" template that uses mirrors to allow me to view information in various ways.   I set it up exactly how I would like... but now I cannot duplicate it - since the mirrors still link to their originals along with their now copied items.

  Is there anyway around this?    Anyway to tell mirrors to just point to within their own node?

  So all you need to do after having created a new outline from the template is to go to the mirrored node(s) and bring up the options menu > detach mirror:
