Double press Escape to clear active search as an option (get confirmation when hit Escape key)
TL;DR - Give opton to require double press of Escape to clear search (and initiate a search) so I don't lose my search results state. It's too easy to press Escape and lose it (results/expanded-collapse/my mind).
Many times per day I have a search active and I am going through many results perhaps even collapsing various high-level or other nkill contextodes to reveal the ones I want and I click the Escape key accidentally because of UX experience where Escape in most apps doesn't kill context, muscle memory, or I think another window has focus, etc. Then suddenly the set of nodes I have been working through is gone. I have to start again and sometimes this happens multiple times wasting my time having to start again.
Sure, you could call this User Error, but some would say there's no such thing as a user error.
As a user of Workflowy when I have an active search that I have been using for more than a single find, if I press the Escape key I would like Workflowy to check that I want to reset the context of results/open-closed nodes/progress through the set of results so that I can continue my task. A simple way would be to give an option to require 2 presses of the Escape key instead of just 1 pressas no app I know uses 2 presses of Escape to mean anything that would not lose work/progress/state.

A related challenge I have is: clicking on Home or another bullet clears the active search, so I lose my results and my search string. This is a problem when, for example, you do a search and then realize you want to have done the search from higher up in the outline. Remembering the past search strings as Jonathan suggest would help alleviate this frustration.
And related to Andreas' issue, ideally the search box would allow us the option of auto-clearing or persisting when we take an action that may or may not be intended to clear the search.
