Yep... I should have given you the options for both Windows and Mac :-)

    Hi Frank-

I understand I can use command-K to search globally, but I would really like if there was a way (either with a modifier key or maybe with an option for a default setting) to make it so that when I click on a tag it get a global search for the tag rather than one just downstream of the current node. There are a couple of reasons for this:

    1. The search result page when you click on a page presents data in a very nice way (especially for a long list of nodes with a particular tag), and allows me to edit the nodes that are returned right there in the search page.  The modal that comes up with command-K does not really compare (though it's great for many other uses, including quick switching).

    2. The beauty of tags is that as I run across them, I can just click on it to instantly get other similarly tagged nodes–it's just a simple click. So having to use command-K kind of undermine the point of linked tags by introducing a lot of friction. I wonder what the default mode is for most people, but when I click on a tag I expect to see everything else similarly tagged in my entire DB, not just in children. For example, I use daily notes a la (Home > Journal > Tue, Feb 8, 2022 > nodes. When I add a node with the tag #sunset and I click on that tag, I want to see all sunsets under Journal (and everywhere else) not just inside Tue, Feb 8, 2022. This is because I'm usually clicking on a tag after I just wrote it and I want to see what other nodes are related to the one I just edited, but since I am usually writing nodes at the very end of a branch, there's nothing else tagged the same except the node I just tagged.

To my mind it makes much more sense that clicking on a tag does a global search, not just a downward search. In any event, I really hope you guys can give us an option. Would make WF much, much better for me.

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

Please try the Ctrl+K shortcut to use the global search menu...

@frank, I may be blind, but I'm not finding that ctrl+k does anything on my Mac (tho it is a Mac global keystroke to delete to the end of the line)

I also found this: https://rawbytz.github.io/workfindy-BM/ but you have to click it to open global search

Frank... geez, hit me over the head with a brick. D'oh!

Honestly... every time in the last 3 years I've used command-k it was simply to jump to different starred sections. Never once thought to use it to search globally. I thought the search on that popup was to find within the starred sections.

OMG I tell everyone to just try things, but my brain never went there. So much for being a techie expert ;)

and I did take you literally as I've been learning as many keyboard shortcuts as possible so when you say cntrl-k that's where I went ;)

agree that something like shift+click on tags to view all nodes with that tag would be amazing..

    Hi Mitch,

Cmd+K on Mac... (Ctrl is for Windows users) would you try that?

Agree & one more vote. Quick search of @name or #topic is powerful way to bring a new context to whatever you are focusing on. I see the feature already exists, except for a way to access it.

Shift click on tags or something to that effect for global search would be perfect.
