Hello, awesome people!
I would like to begin by expressing how grateful I am towards you. You have created an app that is now pretty much a genuine extension of my brain. You see, I have been using WorkFlowy for almost 7 years now. Back in 2014, I was still a student and as soon as I tried adding bullets on this o-so welcoming blank page, I - DID - INSTANTLY - FALL - IN - LOVE with it. I knew I would never leave this document. I felt how powerful this place could become. And then, something weird happened: I did use it for years, but it was only recently that I actually found the ways to reveal the full potential of the app. My account is now a powerhouse, but this is pretty new. What happened?
Well it began with videos you guys posted on Youtube. It was a series of pretty new videos that had the genius of both covering basic usage of native features of the app, but also presenting examples of full-stack cases of use coming from various domains ranging from using WorkFlowy while being a student, to using it as a writer. Extremely useful videos. I have then been following your template challenge, the results where really inspiring and I would love to have more. Last but not least, all of this led me to consider buying Frank's book. I did. I was so right to. This thing is the one ring of WorkFlowy. So much power in there...
After all this, my account became so mighty. And the thing is, the more power I have in my document, the more stuff I make inside the app. At the very beginning, I used it to organize my life and my professional projects, then I found myself storing information of all kind and now, I am even producing content directly inside the app. Even this letter you are reading is being written right now inside WorkFlowy, and will be extracted straight from it! So today, WorkFlowy is my tool to organize my projects, both personnal and professional. It is also my calendar, where I note down the events that will happen. It is also my global to-do list of the day, thanks to the date tags I use throughout my whole account. It is also my global notepad, where I store information about anything but also lore on the stories I create or thoughts on the shows, video games, comics and music I consume. And it is also my word processing program, where I write my stories, my gift cards, my emails directly in Markdown, ready to be exported and used as-is. Some people are addicted to Instagram or Tick toc. You can see them spending so much time or their phone, using those apps for so long. I am addicted to WorkFlowy.
But wait, there's more. See, I am this kind of guy. The guy that always gets ready for the worst, that can think: "Okay, so, I got my 500GB music library in my pocket, stored in my music player, but let's also store it in this external drive so I do not loose everything if anything was to happen." Driven by the same idea, I have always made sure my computer system was based on programs that let me switch to different systems while keeping all my data and while letting me perform the same actions. But now, my whole system is inside one app! And the thing is, no app is doing quite what yours is doing. Absolutely none. Even for the ones that would like to, there is always at least that tiny little feature that is not quite there. And that changes everything.
So there we are. WorkFlowy is an extension of my brain, and it is even more, being by itself the whole computer system I base my life upon. It is also absolutely impossible to replace, as no solid alternative exist. And there you have it. I am afraid. I have reached a point where I genuinely don't see myself living my life without WorkFlowy, and this is very good for you: Right there, you have made yourself a pretty engaged and loyal customer. But what about the moment your company will die? Cause here is the thing, no living being lasts forever and honestly, dread fills me when I think of the possibility that I could outlive Workflowy.
I have been thinking about this whole situation. More than absolutely well-deserved praises or frightening honest worries, I come to you today with a question. Or rather, a request. Could you please prepare a solution if this case was to happen? Something like a standalone windows installer program and an android APK, both not needing internet to install the APP, and both using a unique file or folder they would read from and write in. Something you would prepare and only release if your company was to die out. Would this be possible for you? I am being serious right now. I need your company to live long, but I also need to know your service can and will outlive us all.
Please tell me you consider my request.
Hope you enjoy developping WorkFlowy as much as it is important to me,
Johann, a big fan from France.
