    Hi Mark!

We don't currently have a shortcut to have one's cursor jump to the parent node or root node or any specific node :-(

    Hi Frank,

    Thanks for the update.

Do you know if this feature is on the product roadmap?

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

There has been no talk of such a shortcut... since I think I've only heard 2 or 3 requests ever for anything similar. Let's see if this thread picks up steam :-)

I'd like this shortcut if possible.
Or, when in a list, a shortcut to collapse the parent. That would automatically move the cursor to the parent.

    +1, this seems like a no-brainer.

Maybe not many have asked for this, but us folk who like to keep their fingers on their keyboards will use it like crazy once it's implemented :)

    a sorely missed shortcut indeed.

Yes, or even better a clickable icon so it's as easy to navigate up to parents as it is to go to children.

in about every treelist control (like the directory tree in windows file explorer) i've come across you tap left arrow twice and have collapsed the parent. vim has za to toggle current fold-level collapse/expansion. it should be considered a standard function when working with nested lists and would make it significantly easier to navigate in workflowy.

Hm. 10-month-back Frank has no recollection of what 2-year-back Frank said. https://workflowy.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360046595531/comments/360011195332. It's mind-boggling that such a shortcut does not exist.

    Hi @Rustem!

What I had communicated 2 years ago:

... and will log this for the team to consider :-)

This has long-since been logged. Unfortunately I cannot make the team implement a feature I think think they should.

    10 months ago I responded:

There has been no talk of such a shortcut... since I think I've only heard 2 or 3 requests ever for anything similar. Let's see if this thread picks up steam :-)

I can most certainly advocate for features, and I have for this one. Why do we not have such a feature yet?

    1. I can't instruct the team on what to build and implement. I wish I could. I too would like a kbs to navigate to the parent node.
    2. The team has been building and tweaking at quite a rate and have not made a decision on this and many, many other feature requests.
    3. Many, many feature requests that have orders of magnitude more requests have not been built yet

If you'd like to have more than just myself weigh in on this, I'd like to invite one and all to the WorkFlowy Slack community:

    https://join.slack.com/t/workflowyusergroup/shared_invite/zt-s867uw4j-hxIqSvU7n6e7gXKwpjVWbw

@Rustem, singling me out is not a very kind or effective strategy. Neither is it appropriate. We don't currently have this and hundreds of other equally-as-deserving features on our to-do list. All I can do is communicate this.

Hi Frank, didn't take you for a sensitive type. All these demands must be wearing you thin. :) Apologies. I simply linked to a previous discussion, whereas you said "There has been no talk of such a shortcut." And I reused your own joke about "x-month-back Frank", so that was more tongue-in-cheek than harsh criticism.

Perhaps you meant to say "there has been no talk of *implementing* such a shortcut". Which is what I find puzzling, because I keep stumbling on this omission every time I try to use keyboard to navigate Workflowy. Even with the mouse, once a list gets longer than a screenful, you can't quite "get there directly" as you suggested. You have to scroll first. And if a list is longer that a few screenfuls, now you also need to pay extra attention not to miss the parent node while scrolling.

Bottom line is, there is a need for an immediate way to jump directly to the parent node, regardless of how many siblings there are above the current node. Yes, I can always scroll-scroll-scroll-click. Am I not seeing some obvious way to do that easier?

Other than "you can always use PgUp instead of scrolling". Sorry, couldn't help it. :)

Adding a keyboard shortcut doesn't seem like a huge technical lift or a difficult strategic decision.

Correct! Nevertheless, this is a feature request that the team needs to consider. They may look at this request when they take a look at keyboard shortcut related features. We are using all of our resources to focus on some major features.

It's about focus. The team is aware of this request.

You are welcome to join the Slack community where you might be able to get more users onboard and the attention of the team. I have already logged this request and that's about all I can do for now.

Folks, I have brought this up to the team in an internal ticket again just right now. Let's see what comes of this. I don't imagine that this will provoke anything... and that is why I encourage you to join the community where your voice might be amplified. You can generate a lot more momentum there.

Great! Thank you, Frank. I appreciate what you are doing. I know you are trying to help. And I know you started out as a Workflowy "hacker". Now that you are part of the team, you should maybe avoid saying things that can be perceived as dismissive. That "-2" is well deserved IMO: https://workflowy.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360046595531/comments/360006046391

    @Rustem,

Are you asking for a keyboard shortcut that will bring you directly from "d" to its parent node?

You can always use a mouse to get there directly. :)

That comment was not from me. I was not with the team 3 years ago. I joined about 2 years ago and took over the profile of a previous staff member. So I am not the author of all comments beyond 2 years back, even if they show my name and image.

Also, I create smiley faces with a hyphen, like so:

    :-)

... and I don't punctuate my sentences before adding a smiley face. The smiley face serves as punctuation. I thought you would have known me better than that.

Either way, the comment you are referring to does seem friendly enough. It includes a smiley face.

A couple of posts below the post you are referencing is from me:

    https://workflowy.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360046595531/comments/360007498612

Now that sounds more like something I would say ;-)
