I just watched the video on Fractal Boards and was amazed at how versatile and powerful these are. I started to think about how numerical data could be added to the cards like a team reporting on the hours they worked on a ticket moving through a board.
So I thought "what if we had a way to have named numerical values in the text that could then be computed in some part of the tree. For example if I typed !hours:10, with the format !name:value, in 3 branches of a tree and then typed !sum:hours somewhere else it would produce the value 30 in place, replacing the !sum:hours with just this value, but underlined like you do with Dates...
Using this feature you can compute values in the tree so that the data is live. People can actually enter values in free text and computations can be performed into special text, all the while being computed "live" like a spreadsheet.
Furthermore, since you have a tree, you can compute different values depending on where in the tree you add the compute nodes. For instance, with a project you could have weekly !sum at one level and a monthly !sum at a higher level. In other words, each !func:name in the tree uses only the branches beneath where it is located in the tree to search for matching named values to apply the function.
