We're going to be building a "panes" feature, which will allow one to stack WorkFlowy lists side-by side :-)

Drag & drop between panes would be genius, I'm following this

It's been eight months. Why hasn't it been developed?

We've been working on images, mirrors, backlinks and several other features. WorkFlowy panes is on our list, but we don't have a set date to build this. So much to do and only 365 days a year. We get asked the same on just about every feature that is requested, but we have to choose what to work on next. It's a matter of time ;-)

Frank - Able to give an update on this feature request, understanding it is on the roadmap? Finding myself using WF more and more. Being able to have one part of WF visible as reference whilst working on another part and moving things between is essential :)

    Hi Endre,

We don't have split screen/ panes on the roadmap yet. We can't at this point commit to several upcoming features. Perhaps in the future we will be able to line all our ducks in a row.

    Frank,

Thanks. So your plans for a "pane feature" and comments like here (https://workflowy.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360078155591/comments/360016111072) has been dropped?

    Hi Endre,

No... we are still wanting to build a panes feature, but we haven't actively planned as of yet...

I do exactly the same with the native split-screen on Mac Os.

And agree it is not optimal for many reasons. one of them being the inability to drag and drop.

Would be awesome if WorkFlowy offered this possibility as a feature.

    Wait what?? @Max Yakin Bozek

Can you open two split screen WF Desktop app in macOS? I might prefer using it instead of the Multi-Plane extension for Chromium Browsers

I'm guessing Max is opening Workflowy twice and having to cut and paste between the two rather than drag and drop.  Split screen would be better and more elegant.

The ability to drag is surely the key here, but multi window is more minimal and allows the native window manager shortcuts to be used for WF viewports. This respects those who are power users of window placement on their desktop, and is both more minimal and more flexible.

    * Comparing two heirarchies?  Place them side-by side

    * Working on a document in WF while keeping your task list open?  Small task list on one monitor and full- or half-screen WF on another.

    * Multitasking?  Three WFs on different monitors, each beside the non-WF tools you are using for that task

Bumping this thread, just to see what's this month's answer might be.

Yes. Another way of having a dashboard with two WorkFlowy lists is by pinning a window with two different WorkFlowy instances using the beautiful Arc browser ( https://thebrowser.company ) but obviously the drag and drop won't work through them as it is not a WorkFlowy feature but a temporary workaround. The only perfect solution will be when we have a native built-in side-by-side view in the WorkFlowy app.

    Thank you for the goodwill!

As of today, we don't have this as an actionable item on our list. We would like to get there eventually. Most of our developers are from the Ukraine...

I don't mean to be rude, but this has to be one of the most requested features, it's been requested for over two years...in the process, tools like Roam, Obsidian, Tana, etc., are all now in a much better position, much quicker.

It's unfortunate Workflowy has been so slow in its development.

It just got stuck in the past.

    Hi Javier!

We have it on our list. Our rather small team is always working on new features. Thank you for your patience.

I've found that there are currently several threads asking for almost the same features with different names. If all of these messages were merged in only one thread it would be the number one request by far! See some of these in the links below:

Even better than this would be the ability to have different panels and side-by-side views, as requested in all these other threads:

Multiple tabs and windows in Mac/Windows Apphttps://workflowy.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360047791331-Multiple-tabs-and-windows-in-Mac-Windows-App

    Workflowy Tabs on Desktophttps://workflowy.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360002842186-Workflowy-Tabs-on-Desktop

    Two-column viewhttps://workflowy.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360000657306-Two-column-view

    Side-by-side viewhttps://workflowy.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360077242352-Side-by-side-view

    Multiple-panes → https://workflowy.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/4567356459028-Multiple-panes

    Split-screenhttps://workflowy.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360072135752-Split-screen

    etc.
