    Hi Anton,

If you're talking about moving your bullets up/down/left/right, you should be able to use Alt+Shift+Left/Right/Up/Down arrows.

If you're looking to move items to different outlines (not visible) you can drag into your starred-page lists in the left bar on desktop and in the browser app.

    Hi Frank,

Thank you for the reply, I am well aware of those options. I was indeed meaning the latter case you mentioned and I wanted to note that having a shortcut for that would speed up this operation a lot.

    Best,

The community forum is scattered with such requests, and it's hard to pick just one to add my vote to (topic consolidation would be great by a community moderator) ... For instance, here's one of many others: https://workflowy.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360022525072-Easy-way-to-move-over-long-distances

I'm surprised this functionality hasn't been added over all these years; the table stakes omission here makes WF far less nimble of a tool than it could be. Dragging something to land under a different node in the left sidebar beats cutting and pasting, for sure, but not by much. In contrast, cmd+shift+m to send over to a different node would be a huge boost (and explaining an option like this would get this article some helpful points haha!)...

I suggest Workflowy support an "inbox" (a la Dynalist: https://help.dynalist.io/article/119-set-an-inbox-location) to compile stuff for easy later filing to the proper location, e.g. when using the desktop app at the end of the day. Don't worry about sending functionality on mobile for now. But something as basic as sending not being first-class supported in WF really dampens its competitive appeal: https://help.dynalist.io/article/54-move-lists

Tangentially, adding functionality like this would join mirroring as reason to jump to Workflowy, an area Dynalist does not have elegant support for. When you want to quickly close a node you're deep inside of (point 13 of topic C, and you want all of C to be closed), this would be a quick clickless way to make that happen.

Indeed we are going to build an inline move-to feature where one can search for a list to move items to...

    Hi Anton,

We don't have this on our radar right this minute, but we may pivot. We do realize the need :-)

Wow - I'm really excited to see your post about an 'inline move-to' feature Frank - that would be an absolute game-changer for me. I assume you could reuse the infrastructure you built for the [[ shortcut to link to another node? Like Anton, I can't wait - thanks!

Has there been any update on this feature?

    Hi Nathan,

We're not currently working on this feature... but we are very much working on the infrastructure that will enable it – the dynamics that allow inline search for different purposes. We're coming out very soon with creating new pages when backlinking – which requires inline search. We're getting there.

fwiw, I was toying around w/ switching from Dynalist to Workflowy yesterday, but aborted as soon as I realized there isn't a keyboard shortcut to move items elsewhere. In Dynalist, I'll frequently be working on task A, then think of some random idea related to task Z, and it's SO useful/powerful to be able to quickly capture it, shoot it off to Z, and then continue working on task A without having to take my hands off the keyboard, click on side bars, drag dots, etc. (and subsequently lose my train of thought).

… but I realize it's in the long term plans!  And I'm just a single data point 😊  Nonetheless, wanted to express that I think of this as a must-have feature and look forward to reconsidering Workflowy when it's ready 😄

Some of the newer features like Mirroring look awesome. Keep up the good work!

    Agreed Evan Moore.

I was also surprised WF doesn't have this functionality when I came back from Dynalist. I always thought this was already available. Hopefully it'll be implemented soon enough!

I would love to be able to do this too.  I use Workflowy in a GTD style and when processing my Inbox, I will often modify the Inbox bullet to be a Project or Task that I then need to move to another node (e.g. Projects or Anytime nodes).  I hit Command+K to search the node I want to move it too, but I know of no way to then easily move it there.  It would be perfect if I could cut the Inbox source node and then paste it in the node that I search up.

Hi Samuel, Ctrl+Alt+M (Windows; something similar on Mac) does the trick. I don't know why it's not listed in the Keyboard Shortcuts panel.
