Just to comment it's OK for me on both Chrome (Version 80.0.3987.149) and Brave, on Mac.

Both Enter and Tab are working to autocomplete tags typed into lists for me in the latest Chrome on Windows as of right now...

Are you writing in lists or search? Enter has always been the go-to.

Just to confirm... you're talking about tags and not time stamps, right?

Enter is working. Tab is not. Chrome version 80.0.3987.149. I don't remember the exact day the Tab key broke, but I use it all the time, so this must be a very recent bug. This is when typing in a list bullet to autocomplete tags starting with "#". Not searching, and not dates. Is there any logging or anything I can turn on to capture to send to you that might help reveal the problem?

    Hi Michael,

I'm not sure when this may have broken for you. As I mentioned, Tab is working for me to autocomplete tags in Chrome/ Windows. Does using the traditional "Enter" break your workflow?

Would you try opening WorkFlowy in an incognito window to see if you have the same issue (to compare)? Would you also try disabling all your extensions, reloading and then trying again?

Here's a Chrome extension I use to disable all extensions temporarily:

Same issue in an incognito window in Chrome. Note that another user is reporting the same issue on Chrome, so I don't think it's just me.

And it's not just Chrome. The Tab key doesn't work in Firefox either.

And yes, Tab key tag autocompletion is pretty much the single most important reason I'm still using Workflowy instead of Dynalist. I gave a Dynalist a try, but it is much buggier than Workflowy, and generally not as easy to use. I want to stick with Workflowy, but if the Tab key is broken for good, I'm going to have to rethink things. I will gladly do any kind of debugging to help figure this out, but I'm not a JavaScript expert.

    Michael,

To confirm... not being able to Tab to autocomplete tags a deal breaker?

Even though Tab does work for all except 2 folk thus far (just now learning from this thread), most people have been hitting Enter. We often have multiple keyboard shortcuts that perform the same function because of conflicting keyboard shortcuts in different browsers and operating systems.

Nothing has changed on WorkFlowy's end. Is it possible that an extension may be getting in the way?

I'm quite fascinated that this would be the main/ most important reason for using WorkFlowy.

Question... is Tab working for indenting for you?

I'm also experiencing this same behavior where the enter key works, but not the tab key.

    I have tried it in:

    • Chrome on Linux
    • Chromebook
    • Safari and Chrome on a Mac

I have no extensions in Safari and changing Workflowy settings has no effect.  Using beta.workflowy also behaves the same. Tab works fine for tab completing dates and for indenting bullets.

Just to make sure it wasn't something in my account, I tried the demo at https://workflowy.com/list-maker/ on vanilla Microsoft Edge. Same thing. Tab doesn't autocomplete tags, but Enter does. Tab does indent, so my keyboard is not physically broken.

I'm afraid at least for me, this is a deal breaker if it can't be fixed. I'm a software engineer who spends a good portion of the day in Linux, either at a command prompt or my editor/IDE, both of which use Tab completion extensively.

Note that Dynalist has this totally messed up even worse, and that is that the Tab key indents even when in the middle of autocompleting a tag, which is even more wrong in my opinion.

Checkvist works as expected, although it moves the tag to the end of the text after saving, which is a little different from the competitors.

    Hi Michael,

Due to the current state of world events and how this is affecting work load all 'round... one option might possibly be to revisit deal breakers when things are back to semi-normal. We do care about the details, even when the traditional option is still available. This may just take unreasonably long to get to and not end your WorkFlowy love affair :-(

Tab is still not working for me.  I did find that Enter is working to autocomplete.  I'll use Enter until Tab gets fixed.

    Thanks!

I'm very heavily invested in Workflowy, so I'll be sticking with it despite this bug. If there's anything I can do to help debug it, please let me know.

Tab is an additional extra that works for many... but the original keyboard shortcut is Good old Enter. Hopefully the distance doesn't leave one out of breath.
