Starred list - delay
Hi, I'm getting some lag issues when using the side panel or the starred list. There is a delay of around 3 seconds before the page opens after clicking on a starred item.

Hi Frank, sorry for the delayed response! I'm seeing this in the browser app, using Chrome (on both a Chromebook and Windows). The lag is now a bit longer - around 5 seconds for pages with lots of content. It used to be milliseconds.
I'm using your "Workflowy Background Images" extension and wondered if this was causing the issue, but disabling it makes no difference. Also, I just checked on a different browser (Microsoft Edge) and same issue.
One thought - I think I'm using a different version of the sidebar (the older alphabeticized version, which I prefer) - perhaps it's related to that?
Thanks

Hi James,
Thanks for getting back to me. I doubt it has anything to do with Chrome extensions if you're seeing the same behavior in multiple apps...
Also... I don't think there's a way to revert back to an older version of WorkFlowy in one's browser... unless you're using the ancient WorkFlowy Chrome app... which worked offline... but which we discontinued support for and built the desktop app. Either way... you say you're having slowness issues in other browsers... so I don't think it's the old Chrome app... So I'm assuming you're seeing the same left bar everyone else sees..
Would you happen to know how many WorkFlowy bullets/ lists you have? If you'd like to get an exact count, here's a tool you can use:
https://rawbytz.github.io/total-bullets/
All you would need to do is drag the "totalBullets" link to your bookmarks toolbar in any browser... and you can then click on it when you are viewing WorkFlowy. This will give you a total bullet count.

Hi Frank,
Thanks, I used the above tool and it shows that I have 28,874 bullets... I use WF lots :)
I notice that the delay affects pages with lots of bullets disproportionately. The longer pages take about 5 seconds to load. Pages with minimal content open faster.
I'm noticing it especially when using the side panel (clicking the hamburger icon) and the dynamic menu (ctrl/semi-colon in Chrome). Clicking through from an existing page is delayed too, but seems a little faster.

Hi James,
I don't believe you have nearly enough bullets for this to be the issue. Thank you for confirming.
Would you try and clear your Chrome browser cache? (Ctrl+Shift+Delete to take you to the options menu)
It seems like you have slowness issues in general... because you've tested this in multiple browsers. Have you tested this in the desktop app?
Best,
Frank

Hi Frank, yes I cleared the browser cache (not the passwords though). This same issue is happening on two different machines and using different browsers.
However, I just tried the Workflowy beta site and I find that using that url, there are no delays. I'm happy to continue using the beta version, but presume this still shouldn't be happening on the stable version?
Thanks,
James

Hi James,
It's hard to say what's happening on your end... it's puzzling... because you're getting lagging on multiple machines in multiple browsers with relatively few bullets (account size is not the issue)... and whether or not on the same network, Beta is working a whole lot better for you. I can't say we currently have any cases similar to yours that we can't troubleshoot and get to the bottom of. So this is not a widespread thing.
The only thing I can think of now would be to access your 3-dot menu on your home page (top right next to the star icon)... and then hit the "Collapse all" option...
The reason this may work is because what's different on the Beta site is that it remembers a different set of expand/ collapse states... so this is really scraping the bottom of the barrel!

Hi Frank, if I collapse all the bullets on pages with heavy content, this does make them load much faster. I prefer to have the content expanded though so not ideal.
Maybe it's just deja-vu, but I seem to remember this happening a while back, and it being addressed by an update? Or maybe the update never made it beyond the beta version?
