Option to place new or dropped-in bullets at the top or bottom of list

    Hi Cameron,

This is a real fine-grained explanation of WorkFlowy-wide behavior cross-platform when creating new bullets and dropping behavior. It would be hard to think of anything you may have left out (can't think of anything just yet)... oh wait... when you indent a list under a collapsed list, it ends up at the bottom (expected) as opposed to when you drop a bullet into a collapsed list and it lands at the top (which you pointed out). Just to say that your comprehensive write-up is much appreciated.

What would you say is the #1 behavior change/ feature you'd like out of those mentioned? Would it be with the plus button on mobile? Some have suggested that tapping gives you a new bullet either at the top or bottom of a list... while long-pressing gives you the opposite... along with the ability to customize the behavior.

    One idea:

The plus button on mobile could pop up two more plus buttons, one which would create a new bullet at the top of the list, and one which would create a new bullet at the bottom of the list.

I have seen other apps take a similar approach where the plus button pops up more buttons, e.g. Evernote.

Also, I tried turning on the new left bar on mobile, and lost the plus button. :(

Also, perhaps a bug: in the left bar on Android, the tree/list is not drag scrollable until a node is expanded, hence lower nodes are not accessible in the left bar when it is first opened.

    Hi Michael,

    Thank you for your suggestions!

As far as the Android left bar... we are still very much in the thick of things polishing this up. Thank you for bearing with us!

Hi Frank. Thanks for the response. And good thinking on the indent also. Yeah, if I had to prioritize, I’d say first would be a plus sign on mobile adding to bottom. Lest I blame the developers for this, I originally voted for it to show up top when added, but have since changed my mind. A close second would be to have dropped in items to closed bullets show up at the bottom.

Two ideas with the + button:

    • On mobile, move the plus button above the keyboard when the keyboard pops up so one can continue to tap it. If it adds to the bottom though eventually, I suppose the return button will achieve the same thing.
    • On the chrome web app, there is a plus button to the left of a parent that will add a parent sibling. But it might be nice to add a hidden plus sign that reveals itself as you hover over to the lower right of a child so that you can add a child sibling. This is probably getting into the lazy realm though, as it’s almost the same thing as clicking the end with my mouse with the additional needed step of hitting enter.

    Thanks.

Oh and maybe this isn’t the place to ask this, but I noticed my wife’s mobile app on iPhone has arrows for expand and collapse like the web app...but my iPhone and iPad apps still have p,us signs for expand/collapse. I tried to update mine but it still has plus signs.

    Hi Cameron,

Thank you for expanding on your ideal Plus Button...

Does your wife use an iPhone or Android? Because along with the release of the experimental left bar for Android (activated in Settings), the Plus/ minus signs were changed to arrows.

Either, unbeknownst to me, this has rolled out on iOS but can only be seen if one activates the experimental left bar feature... or perhaps your wife is using Android and iOS hasn't been released...

Weird. My wife uses iOS also. I went to settings and indeed saw a new feature for a side bar. I activated it but nothing happened. Oh, wait, it’s coming back to me. She had it opened on her internet browser rather than the app. My bad.

    One more thing to add:

When you are viewing a filtered view of your list, either through search or clicking a tagged # or @, and you add a new bullet to the bottom, it will add it directly after the last item that is visible rather than the last item of all the hidden siblings in the list.  Small detail, but this is in response to your first statement Frank of "It would be hard to think of anything you may have left out".

On the desktop app or the browser it would be great just to start typing to add a node at the top.
