"Copy Node" command in Item Menu please!
AnsweredI want to be able to move items easily within the desktop and iPadOS apps, where the WFx shortcuts aren't available.
One way of doing this would be to copy the node, and paste it in the desired location, either deleting the original after copying, or de facto duplicating if the source node isn't deleted.
This would be much quicker than moving the node around by manually moving it up and then down the WF outline hierarchy to - eventually - get to the desired location.
Hence my request for a simple "Copy Item", in addition to the "Copy Link" command.

"onerous" ?! Adam you hurt my feelings.
I do agree... the moveToBullet script is best for fixed and frequent destinations, in fact while I have a gazillion shortcuts, I only have 2 moveToBullets .... to my INBOX.. and another to a special TEST NODE.. my script testing sandbox essentially. fwiw, I use the starred list (in part) for "working memory" type items And consequently, I use moveToStar for moving stuff to them... it is very easy to add/remove items to your starred list... easier than creating those onerous shortcuts :)
re: Copy/Cut
You can do this already in the desktop app or the browser (but not mobile). Just use Alt+Click/Cmd+Click to select item(s). Then use your system copy or cut keyboard shortcuts. Then paste into a new bullet. You need to be purposeful with cut though, if you get sidetracked, and accidentally copy something else to the clipboard before you paste, it is lost forever. -
Haha - please accept my apologies for my tactlessness ; )
I'm getting the hang of the script thing anyway, so I've duly amended my comment above.
I started getting into WFx today - I understand the rave reviews now, and I've already got a few moveToBullet destinations set up, plus a bunch of shortcuts. I'll check out the starred list integration (although managing the starred items in WF is ..erm.. onerous : ).
I can't get the system copy to activate though - nothing happens when I cmd-click to select. I can copy/paste the selected text of a bullet if I click-drag obviously, but I can't (so far) copy an entire group via menu command, which would be nice, instead of having to select everything.
I've got Collective which gives some clipboard security. I have been known to get sidetracked 😬

I use a mulitiple clipboard utility as well, but let me re-state... Collective won't save you if you cut selected WorkFlowy nodes (via Alt/Cmd+Click) There are actually TWO clipboards in action here... the system clipboard which Collective monitors.. it will retain the plain text information. Then there is the WorkFlowy clipboard... it retains all the node information (including descendants).. much more extensive than the plain text... and THAT is what you risk losing.

re: nothing happens when I cmd-click to select.
I'm not sure what is going on here... you should see the entire node highlighted with a blue background. When you see blue it is "selected" and then the special WorkFlowy clipboard will work it's magic.
For an explanation.... Click the WorkFlowy gear icon > Help > How To videos > Multi-select

I'd love a straightforward copy/paste option for use when the source and destination are miles away from each other.
But for now, what I do is to mirror the source node which I can then paste into it's final destination. Then I go back to the source node, detach the mirror and delete the node. This works well - and arguably is safer than a copy/paste where you could lose your data in transit.
