Shadow copy

Good request - there are a few variations on this theme.

I also think some kind of alias/shadow/clone/parent-child function would be massively useful.

Not sure to understand, what similarity is there between ""shadow copy", templates (as in PHPStorm or such) and word-like Styles?

If you change "the original", does it apply to already-existing copies? (as it would if you update an Object Class for instance)? Or only the next copies?

Edit: P.S. I mentioned word-like styles because you can link styles between them, such as defining that after "Title1" for example, when you press Enter then it switch to "chapeau" style , then "Title 2", then "Normal2", then "bullet 2", etc. Kind of template.

Papa, it's only visual copy of a bullet (text content). When you edit the original – all shadow copies updates. I need it to create different lists of content from the same sources.

Have a look in the request history, there are many requests of this same concept explained with many different words as: "aliases", "instances", "clones", "duplicates", etc, etc. You should also vote those requests up so give them more preponderenace! This is a key functionality that WorkFlowy is really needing to implement ASAP so we can access the same bullet points from different places in our organizational structure.

    Max, sure!

You can place links here, it will help a lot, because I found only a couple of similar topics and those are not exactly the same

quite a few scenarios and preferences explored in those two. (ok, the second one is just me, but hey...)

Aliases / Clones / Active Duplicates / Virtual Instances / Transclusions / Shadow Copies / Phantom items / Twins Bullets / Linking Lines / etc, etc, etc.

I believe we are all asking for the same feature but with different names in a lot of different entries in this forum. But what we need is essentially the ability to reach the same bullet by following different roads. And have those bullets equally updated when you change one so they will change all.

    - or -

This feature would allow you to "insert" an item elsewhere.

This is not a copy, as the updates of the original item will be reflected everywhere that it's referenced this way.

"Clone" is a temporary name for this feature, lacking a better name. Cloning still indicates having multiple copies (in the sense of cloning an animal), but that's not the case here. There's only own copy, but there are multiple references (or images).

The way I understood transclusion, there's always an original item, and editing the original automatically changes the copies. So I was initially thinking that interacting with a clone will send you to the original, you'll edit it, and the clones will be changed too.

If you consider all clones as equals (no original, no source) you can directly edit any clone, and the changes will automatically be implemented for all its brothers. I think this type of interaction will be a little more flexible.

    Hi

I have been waiting for this feature for ages, but since it hasn't been implemented I have found a workaround for it which isn't perfect but its better than nothing. Lets say you have a bullet and you need it to be in multiple places, just copy the link of the bullet and create an identical bullet in another location and place the link in the notes section, as shown below in the attachment. I find this works great for the above reasons.
