Code Formatting
As a user of the native apps, I'd love a built in way to show code formatting, since I use WorkFlowy in the context of software development.
Also, I sometimes write strings that use a hash but aren't meant to be tags, so having this type of option would be most appreciated.
Something like Markdown's backtick options would make a lot of sense and be something that anyone could do.
`inline code here`
```
Code Block here
There is a newer competing app – Notion – which has been vying for my attention. I love the simplicity of Workflowy, but I too use it for software and not having the code block support in Workflowy feature has been a thorn in the side for a while now. I hope this gets addressed so that I don't have a reason to explore elsewhere.
Also, the ability to set monospaced font in only just some selected bullets would be quite useful
especially when imputing numbers, prices, dates, article codes, etc.
@Alessandro, do you have an ETA that you'd like to aim for?
I am just a user, like you, so I don't have any particular insight. However, Jesse mentioned the following on Slack, about a month ago:
It is absolutely 100% planned. It’s really blocked only by an extension system for textual entities, which we’ve been working toward. This and many different types of text formatting (you could imagine markdown working the same way it does in slack now, where it gets replaced on the fly)
So, no ETA, but it's planned. (And about the lack of an ETA, it might be better this way: as much as I'd like to have this feature, I'm willing to wait a bit longer if the WorkFlowy team needs more time to implement the underlying infrastructure so it can handle other similar cases, to improve on a recently released feature, or deal with some other priorities.)
Adding my voice to the list! I was ready to move back to Workflowy from Dynalist when mirrors were announced, and even more so now that images are supported, but alas, inline code formatting is a deal-breaker as I have so much content that depends on it.
Multi-line code snippets with syntax highlighting support would be nice too, but in-line code formatting (alongside bold, italics, and underline) would be sufficient to tip the scales for me.
👍🏿+100
- multiline code formatting for notes
- inline code formatting for bullets and their notes
Using this Chrome extension - Workflowy Code Formatter, might suffice for those who really want something in the time being.
I use Workflowy for everything, and I loved the simplicity of it just being a simple to-do list style app, nothing more. Then you guys added a ton of features, and I had no idea what I was missing out on.
- Bullets vs Boards, File Uploads
- The side bar
- mirror
- templates
- internal links
You keep making it better and better!!
I would also love the requested feature of in-line code blocks for taking notes on code snippets. for now i've been using vs code for my notes but if Workflowy had this, I would be very grateful.
