Adding functionality for Greek characters

I often need to use Greek characters in my work, and it would be helpful to have an auto-correct feature (similar to the one in MS Word) where typing something like "\alpha" would correct to α automatically. 

Probably a niche feature, but I would love it.

(also please include the "var" features, such as \epsilon = ϵ and \varepsilon = ε)
