Search results auto-collapse conversation replies and other sub-bullets, as you type
CompletedIf I search for #cr, I get all the stuff I am flagged on, to which I need to respond. This is really great.
What's even greater is that I can "work" right there in the search-results view, replying right there, for example, in a conversation thread. So for example, I might see:
@mm: Is this right? #cr
And, following your subtle-but-brilliant conventions for conversation, I can immediately add a sub-bullet with my reply:
@cr: Yes! #mm
However, for the last few days I've started having a problem that I never noticed before: if I begin adding a sub-bullet, and start typing, the parent bullet (the one tagged with #cr, the one that came up in my search results) collapses. I'll be in the middle of typing and BOOM, the bullet in which I'm typing disappears and my focus seems to go nowhere (so everything I continue typing is lost). Disoriented, I struggle to find where I was, see that the bullet collapsed on me, open it back up, and resume typing.
The problem seems to be some kind of periodic refresh. When the search results first appear, of course, only results and their parents appear, and sub-bullets of result items are collapsed out of view. This is brilliant and correct. However, once the results appear, I get to start working... I can expand collapsed things, I can add new things, etc. And in some sense I should be free to override that initial expand/collapsed state for any bullet -- and my overrides should persist for as long as I'm working.
Again, if I were to re-request the search results (click into the search field and hit Enter), then yes, of course, the page would refresh and expand/collapsed status would again depend on your logic. But here, the issue is that I'm not re-requesting search results, my bullet is just being summarily collapsed as I'm typing into it!
I'm a quite-careful software developer myself and I can assure you that I am not accidentally clicking refresh, my hand is not brushing my touchpad, etc., etc. This is not user error.
It also doesn't happen all the time. It seems like it's a background thread that is just happening to decide to enforce its notions about what should be expanded or collapsed. It might happen once, maybe 30 seconds after the initial load, or it might happen repeatedly. It doesn't seem to be more frequent than every 30-60 seconds, because it doesn't collapse me every time I'm replying to something -- just a frustrating amount of time (maybe with 15-20% probability today).
I also think that this just started this week, but it might be that I just wasn't using search results so heavily before.
Would very much appreciate a fix.
Thanks,
Chris

Thanks again for the thoughtful write up of the behavior here. What you're saying makes sense and is an area we can improve. There are quite a few things we'd like to improve with Search and we'll add this to the list.
In the interim, once you do a search, you can click a parent bullet to "zoom" into that section and then type away to your heart's content and nothing will update/refresh. As soon as you do that first "zoom" after a search, the field will clear and you'll be all set.
One thing to also double check, sometimes certain browser extension cause the search to re-initiate. Try turning off your browser extensions and this might solve that problem as well.
Thanks and hope that helps!

Instead of zooming into the parent bullet and losing the current search, expanding the parent bullet, then clicking the new child bullet is less disruptive.
I experience the sporadically collapsing behavior in Chrome, Firefox, and the desktop application and in both beta and production versions.
