Virtual Instances of Bullet point
CompletedThe way that we use workflowy, we would sometimes like to keep one bullet point in 2 separate locations. For instance, we have a backlog of tasks that need to get done for a large project. Each of those tasks has a significant amount of information indented inside of it. We would like to have a copy of that bullet point in both the backlog of tasks, and make a virtual copy of it to be put into the users individual Todo list for that week.
These "Virtual Instances" could have an orange colored dot, to represent to the user that the information they are working with exists in multiple hiearchies at once.
I guess you have to prevent Virtual instances from being put inside other virtual instances, to prevent weird recursive problems.
If you are looking for other examples of this type of instancing, the project management program Favro allows for something very similar. You can create virtual instances of cards and have the same card exist in multiple locations at once.
Thanks for the great app!

Hi Antonio,
Exactly like (()), but the other way, that is, so that while I am typing in a new item, i could be able to send the item into several other locations in my library. Using (()) I would have to navigate to each location I want the item to be located, and in that location type (()) and find the item I wanto to mirror here.
Unless I am confused and have totally misunderstood how (()) works :)

Hi Antonio,
Here is how I currently do it (but would hope to be able to do it easier):
- Tag all the items with a certain tag across several lists
- Use the tag to filter my lists
- Multi select the items (with alt key)
- Copy as mirrors (alt + shift + m)
- Paste to the location where I want all the mirrors to beHere is how I would love to have it:
- Use some type of symbol, similar to # or (()), but which is not used yet, e.g. § which would allow me to send as mirror to location named X. This would mean that all the bullets i have tagged with e.g. §data would all be mirrored to my bullet named "data" (probably using drop-down to select correct bullet and using same system as mirrors and liks, whith unique ID, which is already in place).
Hope this makes it more clear :)

I’ve been away from WorkFlowy for a year though I’ve continued to pay attention. So I’m going to continue to advocate “Cloning“, “Transclusion“, “Virtual Bullet Points” or whatever people want to call it as the most important thing the team can do to grow their user-base. I still feel so two or three years after I first said it. Search also needs work, as in “Search Anywhere”, not just in the active view or node. Sorting is a must, fundamental to any data management and retrieval process. Color would help too, as would the ability to “Send” an item to a different TLI or Node. I’d love to re-join. Even a 50% price rise wouldn’t break the deal for a “WorkFlowy Pro”. Make my day guys!

Hi George,
We implemented mirrors many moons ago: https://blog.workflowy.com/mirrors-create-live-copies-of-any-bullet/ ... and we're working on color as we speak. MFA is about to come out. We've also created backlinks and several other goodies.
