Color Formatting
CompletedWe are planning to allow colors as part of formatting features, but it's not available yet.

Reposting my modest pitch given that the previous forum post has been deprecated:
Coloring is from the pool of Workflowy's missing features the one with the greatest level of PARSIMONY.
By parsimony I mean that with a small amount of effort it has the potential to enable a myriad of different applications, depending on who and how you use it. Pretty much like Workflowy itself, which with such a simple concept as nesting has enabled a myriad of different applications ranging from simple to-do lists to writing books or planning the release of a whole startup — It seems perfectly inline with the product philosophy and strengths.
Coloring can be used to (1) tag priorities, (2) to mark distinct sections (like an inbox section), (3) to give the user visual anchors to navigate big documents...
It’s also a very highly requested feature in the old Zendesk forum that Workflowy had. To the point that users have created a number of Chrome extensions for coloring Workflowy that have been successful to buy us time and get by in the meantime. However, with the company's strategy to pushing towards Desktop apps and Mobile apps those extensions no longer help.
With that said, @Workflowy is there any internal optimistic targets to implement that feature?
Disclaimer: I've talked about above about Workflowy's philosophy and the company's strategy. Those are just my personal interpretations and hence they might not be accurate.

I agree. This "simple" feature (allowing coloring font) would expand WorkFlowy's system without interfering with its basic premise towards simplicity. Color coding is a great way to simplify the mental process of identifying what some element means and the group it belongs to. I know it's available as an "unofficial" Chrome extension, but I use the Desktop app. I really hope it can be available soon for all platforms.

One other note, I'm hesitant to invest time and energy using color formatting using the Chrome extension if that would be lost when (IF!) color is ever added to the app itself. Would there be a way to import colors added via the extension to the main app?
Also, my vote is for color highlighting more than for colored text.

Adding my voice here too, especially with regard to highlighting since it's a key feature for progressive summarization as outlined eg. here: https://evernote.com/blog/designing-creativity-workflows/

We are planning color coding. In the meantime, here's a workaround (via the WorkFlowy blog):

Hi Dave,
We are building several significant features at quite a rate now... and coloring bullets/ lists is becoming more of a must-have for us now. It will happen, but we can't give an exact timeline. We now are building features with the team we have at least 4 times faster than we were last year this time :-). We're getting there!

Fantastic. I had defected to Dynalist primarily for the formatting options but the recent spate of updates has brought me back as a pro subscriber again.
Formatting on the browser is possible with workarounds but I mostly use the mobile apps so I'm hoping your new formatting options will be available on Android/IOS as well as the browser.
