Image & File Attachments
CompletedUsers would like to be able to attach images and files to Workflowy items. For images, many users would like to be able to embed them into the page view.

Regarding usability:
I use Trello for graphically heavy lists and love his direct and easy aproach: Copy an image to clipboard from elsewhere and paste inside a card. Also suports including an image by URL.
Regarding visualization:
I would like to see the online included images as in Gingko service.

While this isn't implemented, this helps! https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/workflowy-images/cnecfoeoohjnimhbcojcdfhhdllgleck

One of the things I love about Trello is that when I create a to-do item, I can attach to that item all the files that relate to it. If I have a form to fill out, I can attach the form right onto the to-do item rather than enclosing instructions about where I can find the form. If I want to document something, I can take photos with my phone and attach them. I'd love to have this feature in WorkFlowy.

The competition is doing this: https://www.schema.rocks/

Maybe the nice thing of WorkFlowy is the uniformity and monotony of just being a black and white simple text app. As many people mentioned in the comments there are already many apps that are focused on handling images and attachments. Many of the reasons why WorkFlowy is so much loved is because of its plainness and bareness simplicity.
In my opinion, If WorkFlowy ever decides to add colours, attachments, images and embedded videos, etc, it will become just another awful cluttered app, it will lose its fascinating core besides adding confusion and distraction.
I can understand that many people want this, so if unfortunately these features are implemented, at least give us an option in the settings to keep the "only text", "monochrome" pure version of WF! :)

JAROSLAV I must politely but unquestionably disagree. If WorkFlowy ever takes the wrong way and start to look like such a cluttered mess by default, I am sure most of its user will move to the competition in search for a nice and clean, neat UI design, with abundant white space and quality monochrome typography.

Tommy, this thread is about "Image attachments" as the subject shows. And that was what people voted here for. Note that I replied personally to JAROSLAV, which post even has negative votes. There are no images in the sketch he uploaded, but just ugly colours everywhere, low-quality typefaces, irregular spaces, circles, underlines, all the information is so packed and compressed that makes a cluttered mess of confusing data. And he suggests that should be the "default" :O That was what I meant. That has nothing to do with the 66 votes for inserting images.
ps: Even I won't ever use images in WorkFlowy, I love WF as a very simple fast and light non-formated text tool. I agree with you that people who need images so much could enable that option in the settings and use it.

I am sorry I did post it here in the thread Image & File Attachments.
I fully understand somebody wants to have WF only black and white. Most of my WF is also B/W.
But in some parts of my WF I am very happy to know how to put colors in, how to make tags a little taglike and make different fonts.
I use it for distinguishing and prioritizing my tasks and my lists for the first sight.
It is like Excel or Word - you can of course prepare only B/W sheet or document. Or you can make it colorful. It could be just the ability that some can use and some not.

I realize that supporting images would mean a lot more storage requirements and complexity, but I am wondering where the $5 a month we pay goes towards? IMO you should open up Workflowy to be free for everyone for text only, and then have a paywall for users who would like to upload images too (size quota is fine since some people may abuse it). I find it hard to believe that saving mere text data for each user is costing Workflowy so much. If Workflowy is serious about scaling up its userbase then you should make it free for users to save just text, which should cater for 90% of people. It caters to me as well that's why I use it, but there are moments where I really would like to inline attach images next to my notes. It's not every day, but there are moments where this would be really handy.

Workflowy is a nice app, the USP seems to be the ability to stay focused while clicking through deeper structures. But that's pretty much it.
I might not get the idea of Workflowy, but for personal use i urgently miss at least external hyperlinks and links to documents located on the desktop. Within the last few years many outline- and mind mapping tools came up on the market with lots of features. Many of them are free.
Don't missunderstand, sure, creating a tool like Workflowy is much work and work should be payed. But if i do not see any advantage as a user, it is hard to spend 60 bugs a year for an app that does not fit into any kind workflow. Another thing is, i am not willing to follow the new trend uploading personal documents from the desktop to a cloud, just to have them available on the desktop. ;)
