Bullet basics
Bullets are the basic building blocks in Workflowy.
Bullets can be nested or indented under each other. Nesting bullets groups them together, with the top bullet serving as the parent item and everything nested under it as the child items.
You can nest or indent bullets an infinite number of levels, this allows bullets to be used in several ways.
In Workflowy bullets can serve as:
- Single lines of text
- Folders
- Documents
As text
If you hit ENTER and start typing in Workflowy, the bullet will behave as regular text.
You can keep hitting ENTER to create new bullets as new lines of text.
As with any line of text, you can edit the style, highlight it, add links, add tags, etc.
As a folder
You can use bullets to serve as folders by indenting them in a folder-like structure.
When a bullet has nested or indented items, you can click on the triangle to the left of the main bullet to collapse or hide the nested items.
When a collapsed bullet has nested items, the bullet icon will have a ring around it to let you know that it has collapsed content.
You can click on the actual bullet icon to zoom in and view the contents of that bullet.
As a document
All items indented under a bullet are a part of it - with the top bullet serving as the title of the document and all the indented items as parts of the document.
When you hit TAB while on a bullet that is under another bullet, you indent it and it also becomes a part of the bullet that is on top of it. This is how you create documents.
